What is ISO?

ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is the world’s largest developer of voluntary International Standards. International Standards give state of the art specifications for products, services and good practice, helping to make industry more efficient and effective. Developed through global consensus, they help to break down barriers to international trade, and define world-class organizations.

What is ISO 9001:2015?

The ISO 9001:2015 standard provides guidance in the voluntary development and implementation of an effective quality management system. The standard is based on a number of quality management principles including a strong customer focus, the motivation and implication of top management, the process approach, and continual improvement. To ensure effectiveness of the quality management system, an ISO certified organization must periodically conduct an internal audit to verify conformity to the standard. This organizational culture of quality benefits partners and customers by assuring that quality is underscored consistently. Changes introduced in the 2015 revision are intended to ensure that ISO 9001 continues to adapt to the changing environments in which organizations operate. Some of the key updates in ISO 9001:2015 include the introduction of new terminology, restructuring some of the information, an emphasis on risk-based thinking to enhance the application of the process approach, improved applicability for services, and increased leadership requirements. ISO 9001:2015 is based on the plan-do-check-act methodology and provides a process-oriented approach to documenting and reviewing the structure, responsibilities, and procedures required to achieve effective quality management in an organization.
